Visit the Tour Magne, the Sentinel of Roman Nîmes – CHILD TICKET

Climb to the top of the Tour Magne, the last remaining vestige of Nîmes' Roman fortifications, once made up of 80 towers.

Built on the highest point of Mont Cavalier, the tower served both as a major defensive structure and as a symbolic landmark showcasing the power of the ancient city.

Its history dates back to the Gallic period, around 400 BC, when an initial dry-stone tower already dominated the landscape.

Integrated into and transformed during the Roman era under Emperor Augustus, it was heightened and reinforced to reach approximately 36 metres in height, becoming a prominent landmark visible from afar to travellers journeying along the Via Domitia.

As you make your way up, the Tour Magne reveals the many layers of its history, blending Gallic heritage with Roman architectural developments.

At the summit, a spectacular panorama awaits, offering breathtaking views over Nîmes, its iconic monuments, and the surrounding countryside.
