Visit the Tour Magne, the Sentinel of Roman Nîmes – ADULT TICKET
Presentation
Description
Discover the Tour Magne at your own pace, the last remaining vestige of Nîmes' Roman fortifications, which once consisted of 80 towers.
Built on the highest point of Mont Cavalier, it served both as a major defensive structure and as a symbolic landmark reflecting the power of the ancient city.
Its history dates back to the Gallic period, around 400 BC, when an initial dry-stone tower already dominated the landscape.
Integrated and transformed during the Roman era under Emperor Augustus, it was heightened and reinforced to reach approximately 36 metres in height, becoming a prominent landmark visible from afar to travellers using the Via Domitia.
As you ascend, the Tour Magne reveals the many layers of its history, blending Gallic heritage with Roman architectural developments.
Once at the top, a spectacular panorama unfolds before you, offering breathtaking views over the city of Nîmes, its iconic monuments, and the surrounding landscapes.
To enhance the experience, an immersive audio guide accompanies your visit and immerses you in a local legend surrounding the treasure of François Traucat, narrated by actor Bruno Solo.
A unique and enjoyable way to discover one of Nîmes' most remarkable heritage sites.
