BeaucairePresentation
An evening atop Europe's only troglodyte abbey!
Wine and tapas tasting at sunset.
Wine and tapas tasting at sunset.
Description
Imagine a mysterious, unusual, and captivating place, hidden deep in the scrubland... The Abbey of Saint-Roman, a former monastery carved directly into the rock, opens its doors for a unique experience.
Long ago, hermits and later monks chose this promontory to withdraw from the world. With patience and determination, they sculpted the abbey from stone using only the tools they had — a true feat of craftsmanship that you’ll be able to admire in an atmosphere suspended in time.
At sunset, after the last visitors have left, the abbey becomes yours. With your pass in hand, you’ll climb to the upper terrace for an intimate aperitif, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun. From up there, a breathtaking 360° view awaits: the Rhône Valley, the Alpilles, and endless stretches of wild garrigue.
The experience, offered from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., includes self-guided access to the site in a small group, two tasting glasses (wine or fruit juice), an individual catering box (classic or vegetarian), and a 35 cl screen-printed wine glass (included with the adult box only).
Classic box: Bull saucisson, pea “tiramisu”, tomato and grilled pepper salad with garlic, beetroot with goat cheese mousse, duck breast and sundried tomato roll, tabbouleh, flower-infused cheese.
Vegetarian box: Mediterranean vegetable stew, pea “tiramisu”, beetroot with goat cheese mousse, zucchini terrine with tomato coulis, sundried tomato quiche, tabbouleh, flower-infused cheese.
At each event, two local winemakers will be on-site to present their white, rosé, and red wines. You’ll be able to taste wines from both estates, chat with the producers, purchase an extra glass (€2.50), or leave with your favorite bottles.
For children and those who do not consume alcohol, a selection of local fruit juices is available: cherry, apple, grape, peach, apricot... A delicious and natural offering from the orchards of Terre d’Argence, subject to availability.
Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health. Drink responsibly. Children remain under the responsibility of their parents.
Free parking at the Abbey of Saint-Roman. Allow 15 minutes of walking on a dirt path.
Access to the event is by reservation only. No entry will be permitted without a prior booking.
Sales close on the same day of the event at 12 p.m. (noon).
Important:
The Abbey of Saint-Roman is a protected site, located in a highly sensitive forested area.
In the event of a red fire alert issued by the prefecture, the event will exceptionally be relocated to the Fortress of Beaucaire, on the same date as your original booking. This exceptional measure, taken to ensure your safety, does not entitle you to a refund or an exchange, as the experience is still maintained in an equally remarkable setting. You will be informed of any changes by email or phone before the event.
