Presentation

Choose the guided tour of the Beaucaire Fortress, the former residence of the Counts of Toulouse, to discover the history of this medieval stronghold and its polygonal tower.

Description

Did you know?
Bullfights were once held on the upper part of the fortress site, and the chapel was even used as a bull pen.

Your guide will invite you to dive into Beaucaire’s past.

Before becoming the seat of a seneschal administering royal possessions in the South of France, the Beaucaire Fortress was first the residence of the Counts of Toulouse. Having endured numerous destructive attacks—such as the 1216 siege, a notable episode of the Albigensian Crusade—the fortress still preserves impressive remnants of its distant and glorious past.

From the top of the tower, enjoy a panoramic view stretching from the hills of Beaucaire to the Alpilles, across the Montagnette, and all the way to Mont Ventoux.
